Pottery award entries close
Final entries for the 1988 Fletcher Challenge Pottery Award close on Friday.
The award is now worth $10,009 to the winner. The prize money was doubled this year by Fletcher Challenge in recognition of the award’s international importance.
The aim of the competition is to encourage excellence in the ceramic arts in New Zealand. Each year a judge of international standing is chosen. The name of this year’s judge will be announced after entries close.
As in recent years, there is no category or theme to the award, and each ceramicist is invited to submit one entry.
The award attracts ceramic art from all over the world, but only twice has it been won by an overseas artist. A new milestone was created last year, when the award went to two people, Steve Fullmer of Nelson and Chester Nealie of Auckland.
The closing date for freighted entries for the 1988 award is tomorrow, and hand delivered entries must be at the Auckland Museum by 4 p.m. on Friday.
