PA Wellington The Prime Minister, Mr Lange, yesterday praised volunteer and professional services working around the clock in the flooddevastated East Coast of the North Island. . “(They) are doing a tremendous job. Now we all hope that the rain will stop soon,” Mr Lange said. “Civil Defence teams have
been working around the clock to make sure that the flooding is kept under, control as far as is humanly possible, keeping waterways clear and free from obstructions,’’ he said. “The lessons learned from the floods In the area in 1985 have allowed Civil Defence to move quickly over the last 24 hours to alert people to the danger and evacuate homes where necessary.” • i
