Improving weather permitted the reopening of Auckland and Wellington airports yesterday and although domestic flights were subject to delays, airlines were able to clear a backlog of thousands of passengers. .Auckland and Wellington airports remained open throughout the day although Auckland was marginal with winds gusting to 50i knots across the runway. New Plymouth Airport was closed; all day. !
Air {New Zealand's passenger supervisor at Christchurch, Mr John Gilbert, said all scheduled flights; through i Christchurch ran yesterday but | were subject to delays! “All; aircraft leaving ■ Christchurch reached their destinations without diversion and the four | international sendees diverted to Christchurch on Monday all reached their final destinations," he said.
