TRIATHLON
Of the 10 events contested in the fourth annual Lake Kaniere scenic triathlon at the week-end. eight were finished in record time. The triathlon included an 11km run around Lake Kaniere, a seven kilometre kayak back across the lake, and a 20km cycle back to Hokitika. Steve Gurney, known for his good finishes in the coast to coast triathlon, won the men’s open in Ihr 49min 265. That time broke the previous record by Bmiri 17s. This year's entries were the largest and best ever seen by organisers and the triathlon is becoming a popular event. Results:Men's open: S.
