Gondola
Sir, —Sb, the Mayoress has issued a warning (February 29) that progress should not be stifled by emotions, stating that the proposed Port Hills gondola, sited beside the historic Bridle Path is j a project "suffering” because of emtotional over-reac-tion to what could be a “fascinating” amenity.; In considering these emotive words spoken when Lady Hay was launching a trust to (help conserve, restore and foster research into the provinces architectural history, I am confronted with a paradox. Preserving that which exists in historic value for the following generations, to create for them a sense of identity, I understand and support.; But to promote a commercial project founded on necessary financial gain, irreversibly changing the nature of a place which is fundamental to the history of the area, cannot be equated) with the concept of the John Hendry Memorial Trust. — Yours, etc., : AUDREY M. PARKER. March 2, 1988.
