Defrauded woman (97) to be repaid

A 97-year-old woman who was defrauded of $1350 jin cash by a man who. had claimed this amount for work allegedly done in her garden over a period of two months, was to get) this sum back immediately, said counsel, Mr SJ C. Barker, in the District Court yesterday. He ! said : one of the family of Mack Eric Guest; had given him a sum of money to cover reparation in full, and that [this would be paid immediately to the complainant. Guest would have to repay this relative. Guest, aged 21, a leading hand, had obtained sums of money of $3OO, s3soj $3OO, and $4OO. On one occasion he had driven the woman to a bank to make a withdrawal. None of the work he claimed to have carried out had been done. Oh this series of charges, and another of having $lO5l in outstanding fines. Judge Frampton sentenced Guest to periodic detention for six months. . STOLE PROPERTY Household items, valued at $2070, were stolen by Trudy Ellen Heegan, and an associate, because, she told police,; of the way they had been treated during their tenancy, said Sergeant W; P. Creasey.

Hegan, aged 18, unemployed, committed;the offence on January 24. She was convicted and remanded to March 17 for sentence.' : Sergeant Creasey said the defendant, and her associate, had been tenants at the Tancred Street house of the complainant. On January 24 they left the house with the household items on a trailer. This property was later recovered at an address in Carmen Road, said the Sergeant. The associate, Shane Gordon Clifford Holt, has denied the alleged offence. ASSAULTED U'OMAN A man who partly strangled his girlfriend, smashed a window in her car, pulled her out and dragged her along the ground, through the broken glass, before hitting her about the head was ordered to stay away from her pending sentence. Heke Hemopo; aged 35, a labourer, was 'convicted on a charge of assaulting a female on March 3. Sergeant Creasey said the assault occurred during an argument after the couple had been drinking at a hotel. The woman did not need medical attention, he said. Hemopo was remanded to March 17 for sentence.
