SWIMMING Canterbury swimmers allowed few others a look in by winning 14 of the 20 gold medals at stake on the first day of the national age-group swimming championships at the Papakura pool on Thursday. Two Canterbury swimmers totally dominated the 12years and under section. Sean Hibbs (New Brighton) won all three gold medals at stake in the boys section and Nicola West (Wharenui) won the three gold medals in the girls section. In the girls 15, 16 and 17years age group Canterbury’s leading competitiors, Anna Simcic (Avon Aquatics), and Linda Robinson and Olwyn Bruce (both Wharenui), scooped the pool. Robinson won two golds and the other pair one each. All recorded excellent times. Daniel Hibbs (New Brighton), an older brother of Sean, made it a golden day for the family. He matched his brother by winning all three gold medals in the boys 13 and 14 years age-group. In the girls 400 m medley final in the same age-group, the Wharenui club made a clean sweep of the medals. Results: 15, 16, 17 years Boys.— 200 m freestyle: J. Steel (Auckland), 1:57.69, 1; A.
