Following in the footsteps of Honda, Fuji Heavy Industries, the Subaru car-maker has announced that it is going to produce a naturallyaspirated Formula One engine in association with the Italian company, Motori Moderni. This engine will be a horizontally-opposed 12cylinder power pack, developing 500 kW. Thus Fuji will become the second Japanese company to become involved in European Formula One motor-racing. Honda has been designing and building V 6 turbo-charged engines and supplying them to Williams Grand Prix Engineering. This year Honda has abandoned Williams in favour of the Marlboro McLaren Formula One team although it will continue to supply Team Lotus.
