Wall St below 1900 pts
NZPA-Reuter New York Wall Street closed lower and below the 1900 level on the Dow index on Monday (early yesterday N.Z. time), pressured by investors’ growing uncertainty about the economy’s next step.
The Dow Jones industrial average, which declined 48 points last week, fell 14.76 points to close at 1895.72, according to unofficial tabulations. It was the key 30-share index’s first closing under 1900 since January 21.
New York Stock Exchange volume was estimated at 167 million shares, and declining stocks led advancing ones by a 2-to-l margin.
