Coroner speaks out against drug users
PA Auckland Most drug addicts assumed that others, not themselves, died of overdoses, said the Auckland Coroner, Mr Stephen Osborne. At an inquest into the death of Dennis Frederick Popham, he said that he suspected the man did not know the quantity of homebake he injected would be fatal. Mr Popham, aged 33, of
Panmure, was found dead at his home on September 26, the Court heard. The Coroner said that Mr Popham had been the author of his own misfortune by deliberately taking a drug overdose, but there was no evidence of suicidal intent. He said that the drug was clearly a type of homebake morphine or heroin.
