Top athletes criticised
PA Wanganui Many of New Zealand’s top athletes have lost the ability to compete for enjoyment, says the former Olympian, Sylvya Potts. Potts, co-ordinator of the national track and field development squad, was commenting on Wednesday night’s opening grand prix meeting at Cooks Gardens.
The twilight pro-; gramme on Wanganui’s famous grass track at-’ traded disappointing fields in some events. Potts said the sportneeded its senior athletes to keep competing. Many; seemed to have lost the ability to enjoy sport for; sport’s sake, rather than for the sake of winning,; she said.
