Reunion with a difference
PA Dunedin mOtago Boys’ High School will hold a “different” reunion in August. The chairman of the organising committee for the school’s 125th anniversary celebrations, Dr Brian McMahon, said it would be different from other reunions in the school’s history as it would be a “reunion for its own sake.” “We will not be asking anyone to dig into their pockets to raise money for anything.” “It is organised so it will pay for itself so people can just have a good time,” he said. Dr McMahon did not know how many old boys would attend, but he said the main dinner would be able to sit 600 people, or more if necessary. Another main function of the reunion will be to get the old boys’ register
up to date, a “mammoth” task, according to Dr McMahon. The reunion will start on Thursday, August 4, with a rugby match between Otago Boys’ High School, and Christ’s College and a cocktail party at the school in the evening. The Otago Excursion Train has been booked for a trip through the Taieri Gorge on Friday and there will be a concert on Friday evening. Roll call will be at the Dunedin Town Hall on Saturday morning. Saturday afternoon will be devoted to sports. The main dinner on Saturday evening will be “a regimental-type dinner” with a separate function for partners to be arranged, Mr McMahon said. The reunion will end on Sunday with a service at Knox Church.
