N.Z. to hold world shearing contest
PA Wellington The World Shearing Championships will be held in Masterton in March as part of the 1988 Golden Shears competition. Mr Gavin Tankersley of the International Shearing Championship Society, said about 500 competitors were expected to take part in the Golden Shears and these numbers will be swelled by entrants, from up to 15 different countries, for the championships.
The world championships will include wool handling, goat shearing, wool pressing and blade shearing. The regular Golden Shears events will also be held. An electronic readout display will give spectators up to date information on shearers’ scores. Over the Shears Week town parades and market days will be held in Masterton. 21/01/10-54NZ
