Smuggler passes packets—eventually
NZPA-Reuter Stockholm A suspected smuggler believed to have swallowed small packets of heroin held out for 30 days before finally passing them in a specially designed cell toilet, the Swedish police said. The agonising war of attrition between the unidentified Swede, aged 30, and cell guards at Stockholm police headquarters ended when the suspect yielded 82 condoms filled with heroin worth 1.5
million crowns ($380,000). The police said the suspect’s powers of endurance and the amount of heroin carried within his body were unique by Swedish standards. “It’s incredible that he could hold out for so long,” said Criminal Inspector Bertil Salin. The smuggler was arrested by Swedish customs on his return from a trip to Thailand, after Xrays showed small objects in his bowels, the police said.
