Christmas decorations

Sir, —In the middle of 1987 when our council was testing out some of its new Christmas decorations, I wrote to your columns describing the decorations in less than flattering terms. May I now offer my apologies. Their continued presence on our streets must surely be the result of demand from the public, with whom they have become so popular that the council has decided to make them a permanent feature of our quaint city. I bow to the democratic process. — Yours, etc., LESLEY J. COLLINGWOOD. January 23, 1988.
