Pollard stays home

By

FRANK DUGGAN

The New Zealand Emerging player and Otago representative, Chris Pollard, will not play for the Canterbury men's Countrywide basketball league team this season. Pollard, a tall forward with a lot of potential, has decided to stay in Dunedin. He informed the Canterbury coach, Gary Pettis, of his decision earlier this week. “It’s something of a loss for us,” said Mr Pettis, “but he reasoned he had a loyalty to Otago.” Mr Pettis does not plan to add another player to the squad in place of Pollard. “I’ll stick with what I’ve got,” he said. The addition of two American players, as yet unnamed, will leave a squad of 13. The Canterbury captain, Clyde Huntley, has been delayed in returning to Christchurch because of air transport disputes in the United States. He was to have returned last Sunday. While on holiday in the United States,. Huntley has been checking the credentials of likely prospects to fill the vacancy created with the demise of Angelo Hill. Through an agent, the Canterbury Basketball Association forwarded six names to Huntley to check out. “We are no further ahead than we were two weeks ago,” said Mr Pettis.
