Toyota fires salvo
Having matched Ford New Zealand, Ltd, in the car price reduction skirmish, Toyota New Zealand, Ltd, has fired yet another salvo that may give the Johnsonville-based company the upper hand.
Toyota’s managing director, Bob Field, has stated that as from January 1 this year, Toyota buyers will receive a twoyear warranty covering the engine and transmission of their vehicles, in addition to the usual warranties.
Perhaps more significantly (because engine and drive train troubles in Japanese cars are the exception rather than the rule), Field :has also announced a jnew vehicle servicing schedule for all Toyotas sold from January 1. It will mean a 20 per cent reduction in the cost of after-sales service at all Toyota dealerships.
