Inflation too costly

The cost of reducing New Zealand’s inflation was too great and not worth the result, according to the president of North Canterbury Federated Farmers, Mr Michael Murchison. He told provincial executive members at a meeting yesterday that the Government had to understand that its policies had taken too long to achieve results and the suffering was unsustainable. “New Zealand’s ability to have a future as an exporting country, to earn much needed overseas exchange for both primary and secondary industries, is close to collapse,” he said. “I feel very strongly that Government should recognise the social suffering it is causing by its one-track approach to reducing inflation.”
