Lodge named best resort
PA Hamilton Huka Lodge in Taupo has been named the best resort in the South Pacific.
The award was announced in the latest “Andrew Harper’s Hideaway” report which claims to be a “connoisseur’s guide to peaceful and unspoiled places” and has an exclusive mailing list of 15,000 subscribers around the world.
Huka Lodge shares the top shot with a countryside lodge in Victoria, Australia.
In 1987 the lodge was awarded one of only two “yellow shields” in the southern hemisphere by the exclusive hotel organisation, Relais et Chateaux.
The lodge was also chosen by the television programme “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous” in the United States as one of the top seven retreats in the world. Huka Lodge’s owner, Mr Alex van Heeren, said contrary to recent reports that New Zealand’s top hotels were experiencing a downturn this summer, Huka Lodge was fully booked for several months
