Gore Racing Club abandons meeting
PA Invercargill Light rain on a hard surface, causing slippery footing, forced the Gore Racing Club to abandon its Guineas Day meeting yesterday. The meeting was called off after three of the eight scheduled races were run. The club’s executive is to meet today to a suitable date for which to apply for a new permit laterQn the season. After the third _event, the Brian Redding 1200, several jockeys reported that their mounts had slipped in the going and that they had difficulties handling the existing footing. Members of the judicial panel, the Jockeys’ Association and the Trainers’ Association, inspected the track on which a number of slip and skid marks were found.
After hearing relevant submissions from all interested parties, the judicial committee resolved
that the track had become unsafe and the day’s racing was abandoned.
