Greyhounds Dawn Mist Chertsey winner
By
STEVE WILSON
The Methven-trained bitch Dawn Mist proved a popular winner of the Ladies’ Bracelet, the feature race at the Ashburton County Greyhound Racing Club’s meeting at Chertsey on Sunday. Owned by Mr Derek Copland, of Ashburton, and trained by the Ashburton club president, Mr Tony Dickens, Dawn Mist, has recorded several wins on the Chertsey circuit and the C 4 performer enjoyed a drop in class in the 530 m event restricted to bitches only. After beginning superbly from box No. 6, Dawn Mist quickly established a handy lead racing into the first bend and the daughter of Mr Lithgow and Misty Isle was never seriously troubled in extending her advantage to three lengths at the finish. The consistent Wee
Asset tried valiantly to haul the leader in over the closing stages but found the task beyond her, while Welsh Woman held third throughout finishing a further two lengths back.
The time recorded for the 530 m journey was a smart 31.16 s — easily the fastest of the day. Although her formline reads only moderately, Dawn Mist has shown that she is able to foot it in top company and her latest win may signal the beginning of a purple patch of form.
Other winners were: Canterbury Bell (CO; 530 m; 32.695), Bobby Hobbs (CO; 530 m; 32.095), Roaming Grace (Cl; 530 m; 31.915), Boy Bourbon (Cl; 295 m; 17.62), Kooka Kiwi (CO; 295 m; 17.53), Kotuku Queen (€0; 295 m; 17.825), Club Conquest (C2; 295 m; 17.505), Mr Hassan (C2; 530 m; 31.655), Jaffa Man (Cl; 530 m; 31.415), Roaming Angel (C 3 and C 4; 295 m; 17.075)’.
