Derby hearing adjourned
PA Auckland A hearing seeking the reinstatement of Accountant as winner of the Troy New Zealand Derby at Ellerslie on Boxing Day has been adjourned for two weeks.
The horse’s owners, Mrs J. A. Bell and Messrs C. W. Cherrie, J. M. Morley and F. E. Morris, made submissions in Auckland on Thursday to a sub-committee of the Auckland District Committee. They sought a rehearing of the case to enable them to present new evidence.
The sub-committee declined the application but invited the appellants to present submissions for a case based on the review of evidence notes.
They were granted an adjournment until February 5. Satisfy was declared the winner of the Derby after a judicial committee inquiry on the day found that Accountant twice caused interference to him over the last 450 1 metres.
Accountant was first home, edging Satisfy by a nose.
