Royal chance for Master Mood

Master Mood, the "Harness Horse of the Year” in the last two seasons, gets a royal chance to notch his first six-year-old success in The Regent of Auckland Free-For-All at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s meeting at Addington this evening.

The Noodlum entire went close to winning twice on his latest northern trip, chasing home Luxury Liner over 2200 m (stand) on December 27 after being parked, and again bowing to the Auckland Cup victor over a flying mile in 1:56.9 at Cambridge on January 2. He comes in better than any under the free-for-all conditions in the first leg of the. T.A.B. double this evening. Master Mood lost his chance, in between times, in the Auckland Cup 700 m out, hanging out as he is inclined to do the right-handed way, but looks a second-to-none chance back on his old stamping ground at Addington Raceway. A win this evening would give his Prebbleton part-owner, and trainerreinsman, Kevin Williams, cause for reconsidering a trip to Melbourne for the Winfield Cup series next month. Auckland Cup last month, has raced lucklessly in two fillies’ and mares’ events at Addington Raceway since, and is overdue for a win.

Sossy can be relied on to be in the firing line for much of the running from the ace, while Rostriever Hanover’s first appearance in this grade will command much interest.

The NZ Messenger candidate has an impeccable form background and was a comfortable winner over the boom mare, Bionic Chance, in his last outing in the Ashburton Cup on December 26. Speedy Cheval, another eyeing next month’s NZ Messenger at Alexandra Park, should make amends for his luckless run in the Timaru Cup earlier this month in the second leg of the T.A.B. double, the Queenstown Park Royal Mobile Pace.

Like Master Mood, a son of former champion juvenile Noodlum, Speedy Cheval has won five races already this term, four of these at Addington.

Nardin’s Belle and Dream Lustre are racing soundly and should be in the finish again, while That’s That will be on trial for a Messenger attempt after being troubled by a back complaint, and must be respected.
