S.I. playwright wins competition
A South Island playwright has won the playwriting competition held in association with the 1988 Aoraki Festival. Mark Metzger of Dunedin won the competi-
tion, judged by Roger Hall, with his play “Twice Around the Garden.” A short-story competition is also part of the festival’s writing awards,
which are sponsored by the “Timaru Herald.”
Barbara Anderson of Auckland won first prize,
C. A. Sneyd of Wellington second, and Judith Halswell, also of Auckland, third. Cynthia Brophy of Christchurch was highly commended for her story “Python.”
The awards were announced early so that the play could be rehearsed for a premier to be given at the festival on the Friday night. The Aoraki Festival will be held at Holme Station on February 12, 13 and 14.
