Aid to Marshall Is
PA Wellington New Zealand has come to the aid of another typhoon-battered Pacific State. The Associate Foreign Affairs Minister, Ms Wilde, has announced that the Government was making available $30,000 for the relief of Ebeye Island in the Marshall Islands devastated by Typhoon Roy a week ago. The typhoon destroyed homes and utilities such as water supplies and sewerage, Ms Wilde said.
The Marshall Islands, although a great distance from New Zealand, were members of the Pacific forum. “Our assistance to them is part of our normal readiness to help countries ofj the region when they stiffer the havoc caused by tropical cyclones which hit at this time of the year,” Ms Wilde said. Last week the Government sent aid to cyclonebattered Vanuatu.
