Body found Four die on roads
PA Auckland Searchers have recovered the body of a 29-year-old Mangere man from Manukau Harbour. The man, Robert Maslen, was found at Orua Bay near the mouth of the harbour yesterday morning. Mr Maslen and his father, William Maslen, aged 62, of Coatesville, drowned when their 4.5 m runabout broke up on Tuesday. William Maslen’s body was found the next day. It is believed their wooden craft hit a submerged log.
Four days into the 12day holiday period, four people have died in road accidents. A man was killed instantly on Saturday evening in a motor-cycle accident near Hawera, bringing the road toll to three for Boxing Day. He was Gary Louis Klaassen, aged 20, of Opunake. His motor-cycle hit the Normanby overhead bridge 3km outside Hawera. At Te Puke, two persons died early on Saturday in a head-on collision. They were Alan George Bonner and his son,
Peter Bonner. The only Christmas Day fatality involved a man whose car and two oncoming vehicles collided between Morrinsville and Te Arona about 10 a.m. He was Fraser Anderson Miller, aged 88, of Te Aroha. The tally of four compares with 10 fatalities by the same time last year. Then two died on December 24, four on Christmas Day, one on Boxing Day and three on December 27.
