N.Z. adds three jobs to entry list

PA Wellington Four changes to the list of priority occupations for the immigration of skilled people to New Zealand have been announced by the Minister of Immigration, Mr Rodger. As a result of changes in the labour market, three occupations were being added to the list and one deleted, he said. The additions are electrical and electronic engineering technician and optometrist and the deletion is sheet metal worker.

The priority list, which is reviewed every six months, was designed to facilitate recruitment of skilled staff from overseas and was not exclusive, Mr Rodger said. “It is open to any employer to make a special case to the Department of Labour for the recruitment of particular skills, and approval will be given if it is demonstrated that New Zealand residents are not available or cannot readily be trained,” he said.
