Toll staff have busy Christmas
Christchurch toll operators had a busier time this Christmas than they have had for several years. A supervisor at the Christchurch toll exchange said the inclusion of the Amberley, Darfield, Akaroa and Kaikoura exchanges into the Christchurch exchange earlier this year meant the number of calls was greater than usual. “They are all coming through this exchange now,” she said. Yesterday’s roster was normal for a Sunday, but today’s staff numbers would be slightly more than for other public holidays. The numbers had dropped off each day since Christmas Day, but there were still more people than usual making calls, she said. The senior supervisor of the international exchange, based in Auckland, said Christmas Day and Boxing Day had been very busy, but the number of calls was back to normal yesterday.
