PA Tauranga A man who injured himself breaking into a flat was found bleeding and close to death, the District Court in Tauranga was told. Tovi Pulu, aged 23, a labourer, admitted the breaking and entering charge when he appeared before Judge David Wilson on Tuesday. Pulu’s right arm was heavily bandaged. Pulu was fined $l5O and ordered to make reparation of $5O for damage caused at the Mount Maunganui flat. Sergeant Graeme Troy, said Pulu was found slumped in the doorway

of a Victoria Street house about 4 a.m. on Saturday. He was bleeding badly from a large wound on his arm. He had lost a lot of blood and was close to bleeding to death. The police followed a trail of blood from Victoria Street to the flat on Maunganui Road where they found a broken window. The Judge told Pulu he was lucky to be alive. "How would your family in Tonga feel if they got notice that you were dead?” he asked Pulu. “It would spoil Christmas for them — all because you tried to do something that was wrong.”
