Canterbury jobless figures up by 742

The number of registered unemployed jumped by 742 in Canterbury during November, according to the latest figures from the Department of Labour. In November, there were 9411 registered compared with 8669 in the previous month. Department supervising employment officer, Mr Brian White, said the rise was because 165 school leavers had joined the ranks of the unemployed in November. In November, there

were 477 school leavers registered compared with 312 the previous month. Mr White also said less people had been placed in jobs and there had been fewer job vacancies during the month.
