Railways Corp, to change name
The railways will go from New Zealand Railways with a name change and new image to take effect on Monday, grouping long-distance coach and train functions under the new Inter City name. Railways Passenger Business Group is positioning itself to appeal to domestic and foreign tourists as well as long-dis-tance travellers.
The group manager, Mr Richard Middleton, says the aim is to emphasise the national network and road and rail links, with Inter City promoting new
tourist-oriented services, a new livery for its trains and refurbished flagship services. An Inter City coach service has been established between Christchurch and Queenstown, travelling via Mount Cook. Last week the group relaunched a ChristchurchGreymouth rail service under the Tranz-Alpine name. It has a touristoriented excursion train with refurbished seating, picture windows and onboard food and refreshments.
