Violinist gives recital

Richard Panting, a violinist with the N.Z.5.0., will present a recital in the Great Hall of the Arts Centre on Friday. Richard Panting trained at Auckland University before leaving New Zealand in 1969 on an Italian Government Scholarship to study in Rome under Remy Principe. In 1970 he went to London to study with Kato Havas and joined the New Philharmonia in 1974, becoming principal first violinist with the Northern Symphonia Chamber Orchestra.

come principal second violin with the Stavanger Radio Orchestra. , In 1981 he became coprincipal second violin with the Helsingborg Symphony, a position he held for three years before returning to New Zealand to join the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra as a member of the string section.

From 1985 to 1987 he was acting assistant concert master with the N.Z.S.O. Since 1986 he has been studying with violinist Jan Tawroszewicz.

The programme for Friday’s recital is music by Bach and Beethoven.
