Hot glass
“From the Middle of the River” is the title of the second Christchurch exhibition by West Coast Hot Glass Artists, Avalon Glass.
“The title reflects the point we are at. We have made it to the middle of the river,” says Greg Smith, glass artist and manager of the Avalon Glass partnership.
“We have gone through many changes, artistic and legal, since we were here last and now we have settled down to a partnership of three people.”
The two other glass artists, Robbie Reedy and Ross Smith, have recently been working with other
glass blowers, Smith with Gary Nash of Sunbeam Glass, Auckland and Reedy with Ola Hoglund from Nelson and the knowledge and experience they have gained is evident in the quality of this exhibition.
“We have been very lucky to have had these opportunities,” says Mr Smith. “We hope to branch out further with all of us travelling and working regularly with other New Zealand glass blowers.”
The exhibition of handblown glass pieces will run from today to December 16 at the Art Glass Gallery at the Christchurch Arts Centre.
