Forest of 3000ha aim
The aim of the Christchurch City Council's forestry projects is a forest estate of 3000 ha. That was one of several recommendations yesterday to the council’s parks and recreation committee in a report on the council’s three-year forestry plan.
A draft management plan of the council’s forestry blocks is being prepared and yesterday’s report outlined the areas which the plan will cover. The report said the present forestry staff could easily look after more than the 1300 ha the council runs. The ideal estate
would be 3000 ha, 2500 ha fully stocked. The report dealt with the joint aims of providing for recreation, fire protection and timber production.
Restructuring of the forestry administration, perhaps to a company, will also be investigated.
