Boxing camp
PA Wellington The cream of New Zealand’s boxing prospects come together this weekend for the first of three training camps. The 14 chosen have yet to experience senior competition and are being brought together on Friday under the national coach, Alan Scalfe’s, guidance to begin developing a team for the 1990 Commonwealth Games in Auckland. “We want to evaluate the talent we have and gauge what potential there is,” Mr Scaife said. “The ultimate goal is the 1990 Games but along the way we want to blood them, first into senior competiton, and then International level.”
A programme has been carefully mapped out by Mr Scaife and the national council and includes further camps in January and March next year.
“The boys will be placed into a camp situation for the three days and will be told what we expect from them and whqs we want”
