Loans affair raised again
Political reporter
The prediction by the Prime Minister, Mr Lange, in “The Press” last month that there would be another Maori loans affair before Christmas, was raised in Parliament yesterday. The Opposition spokesman on Maori Affairs, Mr Winston Peters (Tauranga), asked what had the Prime Minister been referring to when interviewed?
Speaking on behalf of the Prime Minister, the Minister for State-owned
Enterprises, Mr Prebble, said Mr Lange had been referring to financial manipulators who were using the good name of the Maori people to obtain funds for their own purposes. “I was concerned that once again the Maori people would be made to look silly by the actions of these manipulators,” said Mr Prebble for Mr Lange. He accused Mr Peters of being one of the people who had damaged the good name of Maori people.
