Croquet titles to Baggaley
Jack Baggaley (Elmwood) a relative newcomer to croquet in Canterbury, nearly took a clean sweep of the Canterbury senior championships held at the Elmwood and South Brighton greens over the past 10 days. Baggaley, who started playing croquet with the University club about three years ago, won the intermediate singles and doubles events and was runner-up in the handicap singles and the senior men.
John Prince (United), the New Zealand croquet team captain and open titleholder took the luxury title of senior singles at the competition. Results were:—
Senior singles: J. Prince (United); runner-up, C. Jones (Cashmere). Senior doubles: J. McNab (Sumner) and J. De Lambert
(RecliffS); runners-up, Miss B. Lewis (Cashmere) and J. Fraser (Elmwood). Senior women: E. Thompson (Temuka); runner-up M. Thompson (United). Senior men: J. Hearnshaw (Elmwood); runner-up, J. Baggaley (Elmwood). Levels singles: J. De Lambert (RedcliffS); runner-up, A. Botting (Elmwood). Intermediate singles: J. Baggaley (Elmwood), runnerup, M. Sellers (St James). Intermediate women: I. Hughes (South Brighton); runner-up, M. Wright (Cashmere). Intermediate doubles: J. Baggaley (Elmwood) and A. McMillan (Cashmere); runners-up, B. Gregan (Elmwood) and M. Leary (Timaru).
Handicap singles: M. Sellers (St James); runner-up, J. Baggaley (Elmwood).
