Second Turnbull gold
PA Sydney Southland’s Derek Turnbull has won his second gold medal of the World Veteran Games in Melbourne when he came home first in the 60 years section of the men’s 800 m. Turnbull, who is tipped to win three more golds before the en<j of the Games next week-end, ran the distance in 2min 18.425. In the women’s road walk, Jane Jackson, of Auckland, was first home over all, as well as first in the 40 years section. Taranaki’s Angie Sole created a world record time of 16.20 s for the 70 years age group in the 80m hurdles.
Although the event has been on offer at previous Games, yesterday was the first time it had been run. Competition resumes today after yesterday’s rest day.
