Bounties group to wind up
Political reporter After more than a year of work which has produced little result, a transTasman working party on bounty payments is being wound up. The Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Caygill, said he has asked the
New Zealand officials involved to bring the working party to an end. The group was established in October, 1986, because of growing concern by New Zealand manufacturers about bounties (subsidies) paid to certain Australian manufacturers.
Mr Caygill said yesterday the working party had not achieved anything, apart, perhaps, from some useful data.
Bounties would be addressed as part of next year’s review. of the Closer Economic Relationship, he said. .
