Mrs Elizabeth Butcher and Mr William Butcher, who will celebrate their diamond wedding anniversary today. The couple were married at St Mark’s Church in Opawa 60 “years ago. Mr Butcher came to New Zealand from England at the age of five and settled with his family in Kaiapoi. Mrs Butcher was born in Christchurch and both have lived in Christchurch for most of their married life. The couple have five children, 14 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
