Woman killed in collision

A woman is dead and a man seriously ill in Christchurch Hospital after two cars collided head-on near Christchurch Airport on Saturday evening. The woman, who died at the scene, was Wendy Leigh Tennant, aged 24, of Halswell.

The police say she was the sole occupant of a car heading north along Russley Road, near the intersection of Wairakei Road, about 6.20 p.m. Her car was involved in a collision with a south-bound car, driven by Peter John Tucker, aged 53, of Hamilton Avenue,

Fendalton. Mr Tucker, who is a teacher, suffered serious head, chest, arm and leg injuries. He was taken by ambulance to Christchurch Hospital and admitted to the intensive care unit, where his condition was described last evening as serious.
