Soldier arrested for rape
A soldier from Burnham Military Camp was arrested yesterday for the rape of a woman tn tl -driver early on Saturday. The man, aged 25, will appear In the Christchurch District Court this morning charged with rape, abduction and robbery. Detective Terry Gunn said the man was picked up for questioning late in the morning and
arrested late in the afternoon. n x The taxi-driver, aged 40, told the police she was raped in a plantation near Burnham Camp by a male passenger who had caught the taxi in Cathedral Square. l The man had asked to be driven towards Rolleston and Burnham. He told the driver to
turn off into the plantation. The women, whose keys and purse were taken, ran to the Main South Road where she was picked up by three soldiers in a car and taken to the military camp. A police dog tracked the offender to an area-just short of the camp.
