Sir,—lt is time that David Shanks put forward some constructive ideas. Is he trying to deny that biological factors play no part in human life? Does he believe that environment (especially education) is the only influence? If his own education was such that he thinks that an argument can be solved by calling other people’s ideas rubbish, then it could not have been much of an education. So eager was he to use his erudition in making destructive attacks that he failed to note that I used "genetic seeming”; “seems particularly prominent in the white race.” I would not have used those qualifiers if I possessed that arrogance of education which claims that it is the new god. Thankfully, there is still the human factor. — Yours, etc.,

VERNON WILKINSON. November 16, 1987.
