Estuary

Sir,—The Estuary is undoubtedly a valuable national asset The water and surrounding areas have been improved to a great degree through the efforts of local authorities and residents’ association groups. You will note as you drive across the Causeway that. the mud is disappearing, that the sandbanks and a profusion of bird life are returning to the Estuary. The Marine Department also tells us that the fish population is increasing. No doubt the council, In liaison with local interested people, will come up with a solution to the hazardous corner causing concern at present There is an exception to these improvements and that is McCormacks Bay. What a mess the bay is, with the present poor condition caused by an inadequate flushing each tidal cycle. This, in turn, has been caused by the Causeway and its Inadequate flow channels. What action does the City Council Intend to take to upgrade this very valuable recreational resource? — Yours, etc., D. H. McLEAN. November 19, 1987.
