Church burgled again
The St John’s Methodist Church in Addington has been burgled again in the fifth break-in of the year. The offenders gained entry by jemmying a board which covered a door smashed in a previous burglary. They rummaged through property and forced open a choir cupboard, which contained
sheet music. The burglars stole a control box for the public address system, a speaker from the lectern, a brass flower stand and a reading lamp from the organ. A speaker box was taken from the wall in the vestibule and burnt. The minister of the church, the Rev. Bruce Caygill, said that he could
only repeat what he had said after a spate of burglaries earlier in the year. “We don’t have things of value; nothing of real value," he said. “We feel very upset that they broke in instead of coming to us if they were in real need.” Mr Caygill said that the replacement door was due for delivery tomorrow.
