Cycling nominations
PA Wanganui New Zealand's cycling selectors are to nominate seven road riders for the Seoul Olympics, including a woman, Madonna Harris. Harris, based in America, would be the first woman cyclist to represent New Zealand at the Olympic Games if, as expected, she is selected for Seoul. She is to be nominated for the women’s road race, 70km. The New Zealand cycling selector, Gordon Sharrock, said yesterday the male riders to be nominated for the two road events at Seoul, the individual road race and the 100 km teams* time
trial, are Brian Fowler (Canterbury), Greg FTOine (Nelson), Pam Leitch (Auckland), Gavin Stevens (Auckland), Graeme MUler (Auckland) and Wayne Morgan (Wellington). ; The selectors — Stars rock, Graham Sycamore (Invercargill), and Gary Bell (Hamilton) •— were in Wanganui to see the 100 km teams’ time trial for Seoul. Fowler, Fraine, Leitch and Stevens returned < time of 2hr 6min 57s on the established river course — outside the qualtying time of under 2hr smln, but an outstanding ride in difficult circumstances.
