Nominations end for selectors
PA Wellington Nominations for the New Zealand Rugby Union’s selection panel closed yesterday at 5 p.m. with only five names put forward. With successful World Cup and Bledisloe Cup campaign coach Brian Lochore not seeking re-election, the race is on for the coach’s job although John Hart, who led the All Blacks on their tsu-nami-like tour through Japan, has the edge. The five include Hart, and Alex Wyllie, who played an Integral part in the preparation of the World Cup winning side. The other three nomina-
tions are Wellington coach Earle Kirton, Wairarapa Bush's Lane Penn, and the surprise nomination of Frank Oliver. Manawatu have nominated the former All Black captain who played for New Zealand from 1976 to 1981. The N.Z.R.F.U. will not be releasing the list of full nominations, which could have increased by last evening, until Monday. The selection panel for the Welsh tour in New Zealand next year and the three-test trek through Australia next year is expected to be named after the N.Z.R.F.U. meeting on December 3, in Wellington.
