Firm to lay off 38
Thirty-eight workers will be laid-off on Wednesday from a Kaiapoi tool manufacturing company.
The firm, Patience and Nicholson N.Z., Ltd, had been affected by the downturn in the local market, and falling export sales because of the strength of the New Zealand dollar, said the factory’s manager, Mr Michael Grogan.
The 38 workers made up one-third of the staff. Sales and stores people, management and factory workers were among those to be laid off.
The firm, which makes cutting tools such as hacksaws, intended to continue trading, said Mr Grogan.
