France explodes eighth N-bomb
PA Wellington France exploded its eighth nuclear bomb this year at the Mururoa test site early yesterday, said the D.S.I.R. “A large nuclear explosion of 60 kilotons was detected at 5.31 a.m., NZT,” Dr Warwick Smith of the D.S.I.R. told NZPA
yesterday. The explosion was picked up by the department’s instruments in Rarotonga, he said. The test brings the total of nuclear explosions at Mururoa to eight this year. There were two in May, two in June, one in October and two in November.
