Field days are popular
The field days associated with the 1.C.1. Cereal Competition have always proved popular and the organisers expect another good response this year. . ;
Those attending can compare the wheat cultivars Otane, Kotare, Konini, Bounty and Advantage, plus Triumph barley. The gates open on the Boundary Road site at 9 a.m. each day. The admission fee of $5 includes a 56-page catalogue crammed with information. i . There is parking available on the site and refreshments will be available throughout both days. Conducted tours, of one and a half hours duration, of half the competitors’ plots begin at 10.15 a.m. each day. Tours of the remaining plots start at 2.15 p.m. The field days also feature M.A.F. Tech trials on low cost cereal produc-
tlon systems and the agronomic requirements of Otane wheat
The weather to date has given the growers something to consider within their management decision packages. Since May there ' have been three months (July, August and September) with rainfall significantly lower than average.
May and June have given growers average rainfall while October was above average.
Then, on September 15, a hail storm caused Some leaf damage the autumn sown crops.
